On the basis of many years experience in international executive development, EMD Centre supports individual executives and managers with their development questions and challenges. This may be in the form of a one-off consult, or the selection of an appropriate executive course or alternative development option.

Motivation in tough times
Q: How can I improve the motivation of my team in these turbulent times?
A: This division manager experiences extreme shifts in his international markets, and struggles to inspire his people while he is unsure of his own future. After a first interview, EMD suggests that he seek a successful senior colleague and arranges for an extended conversation during which he will question him about his handling of this dilemma. If needed, the division manager could have a look at some short executive courses. We mention: Mobilising People (IMD) and High Performance People Skills (London Business School).
International Orientation
Q: How can I improve my international orientation?
A: This top executive (early forties) obtained a C-level position, but did not have any previous posting abroad. There are no opportunities to repair this obvious development gap, other than by a serious executive course in the next 6 months. On the basis of an in-depth interview, EMD suggests to consider either one of two programmes: International Executive Programme (Insead) with modules in France, Singapore and Abu Dhabi; or the Global Senior Management Program (Chicago School of Business) with modules in London and Barcelona.

Q: How can we re-enforce the importance of customer intimacy with an
executive course for senior managers in our company?
A: INSEAD runs the programme Customer Focus - from promise to action. And the German ESMT: Winning and Keeping Customers.
Management of Creativity
Q: A European programme on growing a creative organisation?
A: Management Centre Europe in Brussels runs Creativity for Innovation and Leading Innovation. INSEAD: Leadership for Innovation. American business schools with programmes in this area: Babson, Darden, MIT, Stanford and Chicago.
Marketing Innovative Technologies – Harvard is cancelled
Q: Do you know of a suitable alternative for this course?
A: Together with the American MIT Sloan School, the Swiss IMD runs the course Driving Strategic Innovation. And Michigan School of Business provides an alternative with: Leading Innovation: putting creativity to work.
Strategic ICT
Q: What is a good international ICT programme?
A: The English Cranfield School of Management runs various It- and ICT-programmes: IT Leadership Programme would be a good answer to this particular question. The German Business School ESMT in Berlin also offers a programme in this field: Directing IT to serve your Business Strategy. And, of course, some American business schools should be considered: Harvard, MIT, Stanford and Chicago.
Business Development
Q: Can you recommend a Business Development Courses for one of
our senior account executives?
A: This senior professional (mid 50s) has acquired considerable experience in his field. His company should consider stimulating him to share his knowledge internally with colleagues and externally with peers, clients and prospects. This sharing may be by form of publishing articles, giving lectures at internal or external conferences or running master classes.
This approach would serve three purposes simultaneously:
- It would be a true development experience
- It would provide internal colleagues the opportunity to learn, but also to provide him with valuable and enriching feedback and new input.
- It should enable (prospective) clients to share their insights and ideas with the company in such a way that valuable business development leads will ensue.
